Volvo, which joined the Open
Automobile Alliance with other car makers from all over the world, says
it will will launch a smart car integrating Android’s smartphone
platform.
“Android Auto brings features and
services familiar to Android smartphone and tablet users directly into
the car via Volvo Cars’ large center console touch screen display,”
Volvo says in a press release.
The XC90 will have an Android-based
user interface that can access Google applications including Google
Search, Maps, Google Play Music and third-party apps such as Spotify.
Phone-based applications can be controlled through voice commands,
steering wheel controls or the car’s touchscreen.
Also, the Android content will run
simultaneously with the car’s own system. Google’s voice control system
plays an important role in user safety and is one reason for the
decision to opt for Android, the company adds.
