How to stay safe

When you are using Tumblr you can take some steps to stay safe from malicious content. Make sure that you have an anti-virus installed. If you don't have one, get one for free at Microsoft.
Double check the links that you want to visit, most of the times you can identify a virus by simply looking at the URL that you need to visit. If you see something strange, don't visit it or ask the person that posted it about the content of the link.
Don't freak out once you have the virus, the FBI or any other government organ won't notify you in such an way. Just call up your IT-friend and ask them to remove the virus.

Scareware

Scareware, nowadays included into the class of malware known as FraudTool, comprises several classes of ransomware or scam software with malicious payloads, usually of limited or no benefit, that are sold to consumers via certain unethical marketing practices. The selling approach uses social engineering to cause shock, anxiety, or the perception of a threat, generally directed at an unsuspecting user. Some forms of spyware and adware also use scareware tactics.
A tactic frequently used by criminals involves convincing users that a virus has infected their computer, then suggesting that they download (and pay for) fake antivirus software to remove it

The FBI Moneypak virus will disable the Windows desktop and replace it with a full screen message that demands money. The message also indicates that you’ve been caught surfing websites that were deemed inappropriate. The alleged fine for surfing inappropriate sites is in the amount of $100 or $200. FBI Online Agent virus belongs to what we call ‘MoneyPak virus’ which contains FBI virus, Department of Justice virus, United State Cyber Security virus and the Firewall of the United States.
‘FBI Online Agent Has Blocked Your Computer for Security Reason’ warning message demands a $200 MoneyPak payment as a ransom for actions violating laws on copyrighted material to be put on the state’s account, claiming which will unblock the sealed screen in 1 to 48 hours.
